Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Monday rejected the House proposal to replace Obamacare just moments after Republican lawmakers released the details, promising Democrats will “work hard to see that it is defeated.”
Schumer, D-N.Y., said the GOP plan would raise healthcare costs for seniors, forcing them to pay more out of pocket, and would reduce benefits for the poor while cutting taxes on the rich at the expense of the middle class.
The GOP plan replaces Obamacare with tax credits and reforms the healthcare law’s expanded Medicaid program by converting it into a block-grant system.
“Trumpcare doesn’t replace the Affordable Care Act, it forces millions of Americans to pay more for less care,” Schumer said Monday.
