Union workers at Twin River ratify 5-year contract

LINCOLN, R.I. (AP) — Unionized workers at the Twin River slot parlor in Lincoln have a new five-year contract that will increase their pay by 12 percent over the life of the agreement.

The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/U9t3AH ) that Local 217 of Unite HERE has ratified the new contract for more than 200 cooks, cleaners and warehouse workers.

The union says Twin River also has agreed to increase its pension contribution by 6 percent a year, and more employees will qualify for health insurance.

The new contract comes days before voters decide Tuesday whether to allow Twin River to become a full-scale casino with roulette and table gambling games.
