Baltimore police identified the 16-year-old girl found behind a dumpster this weekend as Annie McCann of Alexandria, Va.

Her fully clothed body was discovered early Sunday morning, police spokesman Agent Donny Moses said.  The death is considered suspicious; the only visible signs of injuries were abrasions to her forehead, Moses said.

On Sunday, residents of the Perkins Homes housing project in Baltimore awoke to a grizzly sight, after the body of young girl was discovered behind a large trash bin around 5 a.m.

Police tape littered the ground between a fence and three trash bins where residents said police removed the body of a young girl.

The body was found near a playground on the 200 block of South Spring Court, about a half-mile from the Inner Harbor.

“She looked to be young from what I could see,” said a resident of the complex who did not wish to be identified. “I just saw them put her in the bag, but she definitely looked like a young girl.”

Other residents said they did not know if the victim was from the neighborhood.

“No one has said anybody knew her, so I don’t think she was from here but I don’t know for sure,” said another resident who did not want to be identified.

The body was lodged between the Dumpster and fence just yards from a playground used by children living at the complex, residents said. The area behind the trash bin was strewn with bags of household garbage. Police tape blocking off several sidewalks was still in place late Sunday afternoon.
