Take Five: This weekend’s best bets for fun

Wine, film and vampires lead the way of fun things to do in the D.C. area this weekend.

Friday through Sunday: “Twilight” Convention

The Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington comes alive … er, undead. Um, whatever. If you’re a “Twilight” fanatic, this is the event for you. Three days of celebrity appearances, games, karaoke and a vampire ball. There’s a lot at stake. Get it? Food & drink: You’ll go batty looking for a bite near this Sheraton. Best bet is to head over to Pentagon City.

Friday through Sunday: Filmfest DC

Don’t miss the final weekend of this yearly film extravaganza. The varied cornucopia of film can be seen at venues across the region, including the Avalon, Landmark E Street Cinema and Regal Gallery Place. Times vary, general admission is $10 unless otherwise noted.

Caught the film bug? Go see “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” at E Street Cinema, never mind the subtitles. It’s good.

Saturday and Sunday: Great Grapes Wine, Arts & Food Festival

This annual event is back in Reston and features, well, wine, art and food. Lots of wineries represented, including a number of Northern Virginia producers. Local rockers JunkFood leads the music lineup. Single-day pass is $20 in advance, $25 on site. Two-day passes are $35.

Get out: Reston isn’t as far away as some make it to be. Check out the Town Center with restaurants and shops.

Saturday: Breast Cancer Benefit at the Light Horse

Head to the Light Horse in Alexandria for a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Live music will be provided by Modern Thieves and Nayas. No cover. Includes a date auction and raffle. Starts at 9 p.m.

Get there early for dinner: This cool spot in Old Town offers a good food and drink menu. Get the General Lee burger, and add a fried egg.

Sunday: DC Improv’s “Pay What You Can Night”

This comedy venue in the heart of D.C. has introduced a monthly “Pay What You Can Night.” The next one is this Sunday, featuring comedian Brett Leake. Doors at 6:30 p.m., show at 8 p.m. Tickets are on a first-come, first-serve basis upon availability. Also, you can purchase advance tickets for $15. The two-item minimum will not be enforced.

Can’t make it Sunday? Leake performs Friday and Saturday as well, but you have to pay. Two shows each night, $17.
