A Prince George’s County firefighter was hospitalized after he suffered an electrical shock while unplugging a heavy-duty electrical cord.
The firefighter was unplugging the cord, called a shoreline, from a fire engine at the Beltsville station, according to Prince George’s County fire and emergency services.
Authorities said wires apparently pulled away from a protective cover where the cord connects to a fire engine. The exposed wires came into contact with the firefighter’s arm and the jolt threw him to the floor, the fire department said.
The firefighter was hospitalized in Washington Hospital Center’s burn unit. Authorities said he is in good condition, but has lost feeling in his right hand and arm.
