Former Swiss central bank chief joins Blackrock

GENEVA (AP) — Former Swiss National Bank chief Philipp Hildebrand is joining U.S. asset management company BlackRock Inc.

The investment firm says Hildebrand will take up a post in October as vice chairman overseeing large institutional client relationships outside the Americas.

BlackRock says Hildebrand will also represent the company to senior government officials and regulators across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.

In a statement Wednesday it praised Hildebrand’s “expertise, judgment and integrity.”

Hildebrand resigned in January due to public furor over his family’s private currency trading at a time when he was overseeing efforts to soften the Swiss franc.

The central bank says an investigation cleared him of any wrongdoing but it has since revised its guidance for senior officials’ private business deals.
