2 hotels proposed for Dulles area

A South Carolina-based developer wants to add two hotels to its Dulles-area project.

OTO Development LLC is proposing to put the buildings within the already approved Dulles Station mixed-use development, which also includes office space and residential units.

Fairfax County planning staff has already recommended allowing OTO to add the hotels to the project. The change will now go before the Board of Supervisors, who could approve it later this month.

The entire project entails 2.7 million square feet of development, among the largest slated for the area. The total square footage of the hotels would be less than 245,000 square feet combined. The land was originally rezoned in 1975.

Hunter Mill District Supervisor Cathy M. Hudgins said she’s heard of a greater demand for hotel space in the area, which is expected to see a spate of commercial growth. However, she would not comment on whether she plans to approve the hotel project.

“We’ll see how the review goes,” she said.

No one who could speak for the project at OTO Development could be reached for comment on Tuesday.
