House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs’s brothers blame lawmaker for Capitol riot

Two brothers of Rep. Andy Biggs are criticizing the Arizona Republican for his efforts to block certification of Electoral College votes for now-President Biden, an action they say contributed to the Jan. 6 Capitol siege.

In a letter to the editor at the Arizona Republic, William Biggs and Daniel Biggs of Tucson said their brother, who is chairman of the Freedom Caucus, the most conservative faction of House Republicans, is “at least partially to blame” for the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol two weeks ago.

The Biggs brothers’ missive is part of a broader criticism of House and Senate lawmakers who they contend perpetrated lies about election fraud in order to keep then-President Donald Trump in office.

According to AZ Central, William Biggs is a Democrat who is not close to his Republican brother but decided he would no longer remain quiet about his lawmaker sibling’s political activities.

Congressman Biggs responded to his brothers’ letter, telling the Washington Examiner on Thursday, “They are entitled to their opinion.”

The Biggs’ family political dispute is the second in Arizona related to a Republican member of Congress. The other is Rep. Paul Gosar. Three of Gosar’s siblings, according to the Arizona Republic, called on Rep. Raul Grijalva, an Arizona Democrat, to push to expel Gosar. Siblings of Rep. Gosar, first elected to the House in 2010, have previously filmed campaign ads for his Democratic opponents.
