A 13-year-old girl pleaded guilty on Thursday in connection to the death of Mohammad Anwar that resulted from a botched carjacking attempt in Washington, D.C., in March.
The girl, who has not been publicly identified, pleaded guilty in juvenile court to second-degree murder and could face maximum confinement in a youth detention facility until her 21st birthday.
The minor’s plea follows a separate guilty plea by her admitted 15-year-old accomplice last month.
In addition to the murder charges, the two girls also were accused of armed robbery and carjacking, but the other charges were dismissed in exchange for their guilty pleas with the D.C. attorney general’s office, according to a report by the Washington Post.
Prosecutors said the teenagers asked Anwar, an Uber Eats driver, for a ride and after driving a few blocks they tried to steal his car armed with a stun gun.
Anwar, a 66-year-old of Springfield, Virginia, fought for control of his vehicle when the 15-year-old pressed the gas pedal and it sped away and crashed, according to police. A video of the struggle and the aftermath of the crash, which was posted on social media, went viral, showing Anwar lying face down on the pavement and the girls being lifted out of the flipped vehicle by two National Guard troops.
Medics took Anwar to a hospital where he died, and the teenagers were detained on the scene, according to NBC 4 Washington.

Anwar’s family has not commented on the prosecution of the case, but previously called his death an “immeasurable” loss, adding that he had come to the United States from Pakistan in 2014 “to build a better life.”
Because of their ages, authorities are unable to publicly identify the girls under D.C. law. Their court hearings have also been closed to the public.
