Obama holdover DEA chief to step down

Chuck Rosenberg, acting administrator at the Drug Enforcement Agency, is planning on stepping down, according to multiple reports Tuesday.

In an email sent to staff, Rosenberg said that he would be resigning as the DEA administrator on Oct. 1.

“The neighborhoods in which we live are better for your commitment to the rule of law, dedication to the cause of justice, and perseverance in the face of adversity,” Rosenberg wrote, according to the Washington Post. “You will continue to do great things. I will continue to root for you, now from the sidelines.”

Rosenberg also said he was proud to have worked for such a “remarkable agency.”

The Obama-era holdover has been head of the agency since 2015 and notably wrote an email to DEA staff last July, condemning Trump’s comments about individuals being treated in a harsh manner while being detained.

The New York Times also reported that anonymous law officials said that Rosenberg thought the president had a lack of respect for the law.

It is not immediately clear who will replace Rosenberg.
