Jason Chaffetz to Trump: ‘I’m out’

A top Republican congressman has retracted his endorsement of Donald Trump on Friday night after a video was leaked in which Trump made controversial statements about seducing women in 2005.

House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz, who represents Utah’s Third Congressional District, told a local Fox News station he’s no longer backing the billionaire businessman.

“I’m out. I can no longer in good conscience endorse this person for president. It is some of the most abhorrent and offensive comments that you can possibly imagine,” Chaffetz said.

The congressman said he and his wife could not look their 15-year-old daughter in the eye and tell her what Trump had said and still support him. He also criticized Trump for apologizing for offending people, but not for his actual behavior. Chaffetz admitted he wished Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, was leading the ticket.

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert was the first Republican to rescind his endorsement of Donald Trump just an hour before his fellow Utah politician.

Earlier Friday, the Washington Post released a video with audio of Trump and “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush talking about using their celebrity to take advantage of women. Trump talks about touching and kissing women without their permission.

“You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them,” Trump says in the footage. “It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait … And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything.”

The Republican nominee later put out a statement defending himself from the new report.

“[Former President] Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course — not even close,” Trump said. “I apologize if anyone was offended.”
