NBA ratings hit another new low as the finals games continue in the league.
Game 3 on Sunday garnered an average of 4.395 million viewers as the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers faced off again, the Daily Caller reported.
Game 2 of the finals averaged 4.5 million viewers last week, while Game 1 showed 7.41 million people watching.
“A ship doesn’t sink for one reason, but undoubtedly, politics sit atop the historical tank,” OutKick reported when detailing the stats from Game 2 over the weekend. “After nearly two decades of reinventing the NBA discussion, LeBron is now a detriment to the league’s brand.”
“The NBA’s new self-inflicted identity is written in ink. Millions of turned-off Americans associate the NBA with radical politics catered to only a minimal number of sports fans,” OutKick added.
Lakers superstar LeBron James has become one of the sports world’s most vocal advocates of the Black Lives Matter movement this summer. Amid protests and riots sparked by the death of George Floyd, James has called for sweeping changes to policing policies and said black people are “terrified” of being killed by police.
“I know people get tired of hearing me say it. But we are scared as black people in America. Black men, black women, black kids, we are terrified,” he said.
