Alec Baldwin said film productions that use guns on set should hire police officers as supervisors.
The actor, who fatally shot a cinematographer and injured the director during a mishap on the New Mexico set of the Western film Rust last month, shared the message on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.
“Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapons safety,” he said.
As of press time, Baldwin’s Twitter account is protected and cannot be accessed by individuals who do not follow him, and it appears that he locked his account sometime within the last week, according to a snapshot of his account. His Instagram account is public, and he posted a screenshot of the tweet.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR SPEAKS OUT FOR FIRST TIME SINCE ALEC BALDWIN’S DEADLY SHOT ON RUST MOVIE SET
The deadly disaster happened on Oct. 21, when Baldwin shot a gun on set that he was told did not contain live rounds, according to court records. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, was fatally shot, and director Joel Souza was wounded. Souza was transported to the hospital, where he was later released.
Baldwin spoke to reporters on camera a little over a week later.
He mourned the loss of Hutchins and said he believed Hollywood should learn from the incident and implement new measures to ensure better safety with firearms on set.

“An ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on set is something I’m extremely interested in,” he said. “Some new measures have to take place: rubber guns, plastic guns, no real armaments on set. That’s not for me to decide. It’s urgent that you understand I’m not an expert in this field.”
No charges have been filed in the case, but an investigation is ongoing.
The Santa Fe sheriff’s office recovered over 600 pieces of evidence from the set, including a mix of roughly 500 live and blank rounds, three firearms, and several pieces of clothing, the sheriff’s office confirmed in a press conference late last month. Officials said they also recovered the bullet and casing that Baldwin fired.
