A red fox roaming the Capitol grounds was the perfect mascot for gun control, at least according to Rep. Andy Levin.
The Michigan Democrat was referring to a fox spotted by visitors of the Hill that bit people, including a member of Congress, possibly because of nearby baby foxes. Levin said the fox’s protection of her brood was something people could emulate in protecting children from gun violence.
FOX CAPTURED ON CAPITOL GROUNDS AFTER BITING SPREE
“Maybe these foxes protecting their kits can inspire us to protect our children from gun violence. The possibilities are endless!” Levin tweeted.
My heart leapt w/joy to hear about Capitol fox families. We need more wild creatures around here & less wild conspiracies. Maybe these foxes protecting their kits can inspire us to protect our children from gun violence. The possibilities are endless! I stand with @thecapitolfox! https://t.co/n6AgGmzuRU

Levin is a gun control advocate who has redoubled his efforts in the wake of the shooting at Oxford High School in his home county that killed four. He is in a heated primary against Rep. Haley Stevens of Michigan in a newly drawn district outside of Detroit. He chose to face a member of his own party instead of running for reelection in his current district, which is now a battleground with Republicans.
The fox was captured Tuesday afternoon. Rep. Ami Bera, a California Democrat, said he was bit by the fox Monday night, and Politico reporter Ximena Bustillo said she was bit Tuesday afternoon.

The House sergeant-at-arms sent an alert to members and staff on Tuesday urging caution if they saw the animal.
“There are possibly several fox dens on Capitol Grounds. Animal Control is currently on the grounds seeking to trap and relocate any foxes they find. Foxes are wild animals that are very protective of their dens and territory,” the alert said. “Please do not approach any fox you see.”
