Former President George W. Bush will release a book featuring 66 of his best oil paintings as well as a four-panel mural in February, his publisher announced Tuesday.
“Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors” will focus on commemorating military veterans and those in active service, including members of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force. Crown Publishing Group is set to release the full-color art book Feb. 28.
“This is a book about the men and women who have been tremendous national assets in the Armed Forces — and who continue to be vital to the future success of our country,” Bush writes in the introduction. “The greatest honor of the presidency was looking them in the eye and saluting them as their commander in chief. And I intend to support and salute them for the rest of my life.”
The men and women highlighted in the book are all people Bush has met and maintained relationships with following his 2009 departure from the White House. He plans to donate his proceeds to the George W. Bush Presidential Center, a nonprofit whose Military Service Initiative helps post-Sept. 11 veterans.
The art will be on display at the Presidential Center in Dallas March 2 through October 2017. A jacketed hardcover edition will cost $35, and an over-sized, deluxe edition signed by Bush is priced at $250. The deluxe edition will be cloth-bound with a special slipcover and exclusive cover design.
Bush has written two bestselling books: Decision Points in 2010 and 41: A Portrait of My Father in 2014.
