PERSONAL STATS

NUMBER OF YEARS IN D.C. AREA: 5 years

NEIGHBORHOOD: Foggy Bottom

1. FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD HANGOUT

Georgetown waterfront. When it’s not flooded.

2. BEST MODE OF TRANSPORTATION

By cab but only when the driver is sane and actually knows how to drive. Or I walk to keep up my youthful figure.

3. FAVORITE LOCAL SPORTS EVENT

Would watching all major sports events at Redline in Chinatown count? I like watching all sports as long as tasty wings are involved, dry with a side of wing sauce and ranch, please.

4. BEST PLACE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN VISITORS

Old Ebbitt Grill, the Round-Robin bar in the Willard Hotel, Ben’s Chili Bowl, etc. Besides all of the museums and monuments, the historical restaurants in D.C. are very nice and charming to experience as they are a part of history.

5. BEST PLACE FOR LIVE MUSIC

Definitely 9:30 Club.

6. FAVORITE MUSEUM

National Gallery of Art. I love the sculptures the most but admire seeing paintings by famous artists. I saw Ben Stein there once, gave him a second look because I was thinking, “Why do I know him? Oh wait, I don’t know him but I see him on TV.” He caught my second take and laughed, actually talked to me, he was nice.

7. MOST ROMANTIC SPOT

When you are standing on the west side of the Capitol during the summer looking toward the Lincoln Memorial, the sunset is absolutely beautiful from there looking down the National Mall.

8. FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A LAZY SUNDAY

Sunday Funday with friends. Start off at Peacock Cafe (3251 Prospect St. NW, Georgetown), then jump around to one or two other tasty restaurants, end with a group dinner possibly at a house or dinner at a restaurant that has outside seating if the weather is nice.

9. BEN’S CHILI BOWL, OLD EBBITT GRILL OR CAFE MILANO?

Milano. I love the atmosphere and to have a nice dinner with a big group of friends in the Georgetown area before going out for the night.

10. BEST OUT-OF-TOWN RETREAT

Hiking in the Shenandoah Valley. Or would the trip to Ikea at Potomac Mills be considered an out-of-town retreat? Because that takes all day too.

11. BEST INSIDE-THE-BELTWAY RETREAT

The Seer Sucker event at the Hillwood Estate or the Tweed Ride at Stroga yoga center. You literally feel like you went back in time to the 1920s with how everyone dresses, it’s a lot of fun with a lot of vintage and hip fashion, music, and entertainment.

12. FAVORITE MONUMENT

I would have to say the Lincoln Memorial. With its grand staircase, columns, and overlooking the Reflecting Pool and the National Mall all the way to the Capitol, it’s really glorious and mesmerizing to be there. And very moving to read his Gettysburg Address and Second Inauguration speech on the wall — captivating. The movie “Wedding Crashers” had a scene at the very end where they are drinking champagne on the Lincoln steps watching the sun come up.

13. PROUDEST PART OF LIVING IN THE D.C. REGION

All the glorious monuments! Especially when you are across the river on GW Parkway at night and all the monuments are lit up or when you can see the monuments at night when you are on a plane looking out the window.

14. EMBARRASSING PART OF LIVING IN D.C. REGION

When you want to walk through a nice park but the foundation smells like a toilet. I wonder what tourists think. Unfortunately, homelessness is a problem in D.C. and I hope we can improve in this area.

15. BEST BREAKFAST SPOT

Can we say brunch?! Peacock Cafe or Beacon’s (1615 Rhode Island Ave. NW, Dupont Circle) all-inclusive brunch! Or anything that involves bacon for breakfast — yum.

16. BEST COFFEE SHOP

Swings (1702 G St. NW)! It’s by the White House and it is historical, very tasty, and different from the usual. They have a picture of the coffee shop from when it was open in the 1940s.
