Arizona Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego raked in a sizable $512,740 in the first quarter amid rumors he is weighing a primary bid against centrist Arizona Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema in 2024.
Gallego’s substantial fundraising haul shows a huge uptick from the previous election cycle in which he brought in $146,480 in the first quarter of 2020 and $188,042 in 2018.
Gallego, a Marine veteran who currently serves as the chairman of BOLD PAC, has seen a sharp rise in profile in recent years, with left-wing groups calling for the lawmaker to challenge Sinema in the wake of her decision to block key pieces of legislation backed by the Biden administration.

Punchbowl News reported in January that Gallego traveled to New York to meet with Sinema donors about a run, and the four-term congressman has not ruled out the possibility.
“To be honest, I have gotten a lot of encouragement from elected officials, from senators, from unions, from your traditional Democratic groups, big donors,” he told CNN earlier this year. “Everything you can imagine under the sun.”
Gallego currently represents a Democratic stronghold and is expected to retain his seat easily in November, with the Cook Political Report rating the district a D+24.

While Sinema has faced sharp backlash for her role in blocking the Build Back Better legislation, she has managed to raise $7.4 million since she was first elected to the upper chamber.
