MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (AP) — The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island turns 125 on Tuesday.
The 385-room hotel opened for the first time on July 10, 1887, and is planning a series of events and activities to celebrate the anniversary.
Gov. Rick Snyder has proclaimed Sunday through Saturday “Grand Hotel Week” in Michigan.
And on Tuesday, a 125-foot birthday cake will be served to guests on the hotel’s 660-foot Front Porch.
Next weekend’s celebrations will include fireworks and concerts, and three former Michigan governors will join Grand Hotel guests for a special event.
Ex-Govs. William Milliken, James Blanchard and John Engler have confirmed they’ll be attending.
