Beleaguered Fauci to hit the road with Jill Biden for vaccine clinic tour

Dr. Anthony Fauci, whose unearthed emails have evoked criticism, will be traveling with first lady Jill Biden to visit a coronavirus clinic.

The two will be traveling to New York City on Sunday to visit the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, the White House announced Friday. The historic church was the first in New York City to begin administering COVID-19 vaccines in January.

Fauci has been criticized following the release of thousands of his professional emails, which were obtained by news outlets through a Freedom of Information Act request.

He apparently worked behind the scenes to cast doubt on the theory that the coronavirus originated in a Wuhan, China, laboratory, the communications showed, though he has said he’s unsure of whether the virus was lab-produced or man-made.

In some of the most highlighted emails from President Joe Biden‘s chief medical adviser, EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak, whose organization has been involved in funding research at the Wuhan laboratory at the center of inquiries into the virus’s origins, thanked Fauci after he publicly dismissed the idea that the virus could have been created in the lab.

Fauci also dismissed the efficacy of wearing masks in a February 2020 email to Sylvia Burwell, a Health and Human Services secretary under former President Barack Obama.

In response to the criticism, Fauci acknowledged Wednesday that his emails in the early months of the pandemic could easily be “taken out of context.”
