After John Podesta’s apparently hacked emails were leaked by WikiLeaks, the Clinton campaign finds itself under fire after documents showed aides discussing ways to undermine the Catholic church.
Musing about a “Catholic Spring” revolution being hatched by left leaning political organizers, John Halpin at the Center for American progress wrote that Catholics “must be attracted to the systematic thought and severely backwards gender relations.”
Jennifer Palmieri (now Clinton’s spokesman) responded: “I imagine they think it is the most socially acceptable politically conservative religion. Their rich friends wouldn’t understand if they became evangelicals.”
Clinton’s campaign called the revelations a “faux controversy” because Palmieri, herself, is Catholic.
Paul Ryan, at home in Janesville, Wisconsin, released a statement criticizing the Clinton campaign.
Trump’s campaign has called on Clinton to fire the aides involved.
