VOICE-OVER SCRIPT:
HUNTERS IN NORTHERN INDIA ARE SEARCHING FOR A MAN-EATING TIGER THAT HAS ALREADY KILLED NINE PEOPLE.
THE VICTIMS…POOR VILLAGERS THAT LIVE ON THE FRINGES OF ONE OF THE WORLD’S LAST WILD TIGER HABITATS.
BUT LITTLE IS KNOWN ABOUT THE TIGER…WHO SOME SAY HAS DEVELOPED A TASTE FOR HUMAN BLOOD.
SOUNDBITE (English) Sanjay Singh, hunter:
“She’s not touching any animal because the man she killed was along with cattle. She never goes for the cattle, she’s only going for humans.”
MANY OF THE VICTIMS WERE GRABBED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT AND DRAGGED INTO THE FOREST…LEAVING LITTLE BEHIND OTHER THAN A PAIR OF SHOES AND SCRAPS OF FABRIC.
SOUNDBITE (Hindi): Vijay Pal Singh, village resident who lost relative to tiger attack:
“We are scared right now. We can’t go into the forest, nor can we do our daily work.”
HUNTERS HAVE BEEN TRACKING THE ANIMAL FOR ALMOST A MONTH…BUT IT WASN’T UNTIL RECENTLY THAT OFFICIALS GRANTED A PERMIT TO HAVE IT KILLED.
(nats gun)
MEANWHILE FRIGHTENED VILLAGERS AREN’T TAKING ANY CHANCES…MANY ARE TRAVELING IN LARGE GROUPS AND TAKING HOMEMADE GUNS TO WORK IN THE SUGAR FIELDS.
THE TIGER HAS TREKKED NEARLY 120 MILES — ALMOST COMPLETELY UNSEEN.
