In an effort to build up its cadre of younger patrons, the Arena Stage on Wednesday announced it is instituting ‘pay your age’ tickets for patrons up to 30 years old for its summer revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! musical.
On a down note, however, the theater is taking away its program of $15 tickets for 30-and-under patrons that was in effect for the past several seasons. And since we can’t think of a lot of 14-and-unders who are buying their own tickets to the theater, the new program will cost the actual younger patrons (i.e. college students and 20-somethings) more money while it saves cash for families with young kids.
The theater still offers its 35 percent off regular tickets for students with I.D. But at $70 a pop for an evening show, the ‘pay your age’ route is a better deal … even though you can bet students will be griping about paying $5 more for their tickets this year.
The theater has set aside a total of 10,500 tickets for the savings program throughout the 2011/12 season. Pay Your Age tickets for Oklahoma! will be available by phone and at the Arena Stage Sales Office starting this Monday. The discount tickets are limited to four per household an proof of age for each ticket is required.
The theater is also continuing its other savings programs like Metro Mondays and Southwest Nights.
