Sen. David Perdue conceded in an interview that the federal debt is unlikely to be addressed as both parties turn their attention to the 2020 presidential campaign.
The Georgia Republican said that his party under President Trump has made progress toward putting the U.S. on more solid economic footing. But Perdue acknowledged disappointment that a Congress and White House controlled by the Republican Party had not taken steps to reduce a federal debt that now exceeds $20 trillion.
“It’s a problem that people are shy” about dealing with, Perdue said, in a wide-ranging interview for “Behind Closed Doors,” a Washington Examiner podcast. “We’re in a moment of crisis.”
