Maryland officials this week approved a 10,000-space expansion at a veterans cemetery in Baltimore County.
Members of the state’s Board of Public Works authorized a $3.2 million contract to expand the burial capacity at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery located in Owings Mills on Wednesday. The 25-acre project also will include a columbarium structure to accommodate 1,000 cremains, a roadway and landscaping.
The project was awarded to the lowest bidder, Urban N. Zink Contractor Inc., in a sealed competitive bid process. The expansion is part of five phases to ultimately provide 46,000 burial sites at the cemetery, the most active veterans cemetery in the state and third busiest in the nation.
