The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing in Aden, Yemen, that killed at least 49 soldiers on Sunday, according to multiple reports.
More than 60 other troops were injured in the attack. The group had been gathered near Sawlaban military base in Aden’s Khor Maksar district to receive their monthly pay.
Just last week, another suicide bomber attacked the same base, killing 50 soldiers, in a nearly identical attack.
The Islamic State-sponsored news agency, Amaq, reported that the terrorist detonated an explosive vest in Sunday’s attack. The group claimed 70 soldiers died from the attack.
Saudi Arabian forces have battled the Iran-aligned Houthi movement since 2014, giving al Qaeda and Islamic State militants a chance to attack parts of Yemen in the midst of the chaos.
