Burglary spree shakes Hereford, Parkton

Parkton and Hereford residents have lost cash, jewelry and handguns during a recent string of burglaries in their neighborhoods, Baltimore County police said.

Investigators aren?t sure if six break-ins since April 11 are related, but are asking residents to help them find a vehicle resembling a red Jeep Cherokee with unknown vanity tags occupied by two women in their 30s police believe may be involved.

In an April 19 burglary on Pool Road, the homeowner told police his doorbell rang, but he was unable to immediately answer it. He then heard a noise inside the rear of his house and saw a small, slim man wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt and jeans had entered though a window. The suspect ran off when he encountered the homeowner.

“We?re not sure if we?re looking for one suspect yet,” said Baltimore County Police Capt. Martin Lurz. “For now, we?re trying to get the word out about the MO they used. They made the effort to see if anyone was home first.”

Lurz said the robberies are more serious than those typically seen in the rural area ? a garden tool stolen from an unlocked shed, for example. Residents said they are concerned that incidents are occurring more frequently.

“But, over the last year or so, we?ve seen a greater increase in these types of incidents,” said Paul Cummins, president of the Hereford Community Association. “There?s no question they are on the increase. People have money up here so it?s attractive to people who want to steal.”

So far, burglaries have occurred on Cameron Mill, Tracey?s Store, Garrett, Pool, Yeoho and Downes roads. Police are asking anyone with information to call 410-887-1823.
