Sanders still an ‘active candidate for president’

Bernie Sanders’ campaign manager insisted Friday that the Vermont senator is still an “active candidate for president,” despite signals from Sanders that he’s preparing to help Hillary Clinton defeat Donald Trump.

Jeff Weaver was asked on MSNBC whether Sanders is still in the race. “Yes, he is. Yes, he is, yes he is,” Weaver said. “He is an active candidate for president.”

Weaver was also asked if it was time for Sanders to drop out. He replied, “Well, I don’t think so. Bernie Sanders has been fighting for a progressive agenda his whole life … this has always been about that.”

Weaver said that he is in communication with the Clinton campaign “on a daily basis” and the two candidates are working together on “coming to a resolution on a number of issues.” But Sanders wont drop out of the race or endorse her until they come to a resolution on the Democratic platform, he said.

Although Sanders remains skeptical of Clinton’s policies, Weaver added that he knows Sanders believes Clinton’s “word is good,” and if she pledges to be more progressive, she will do so.

During the Web address the previous night, Sanders said that he looked forward to beginning his work with Clinton to stop Trump, but contended that he would still remain in the race and bring his 1,900 delegates to the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia.
