Try this rivalry on for size: D.C.’s T-giving tradition

Two District high schools are squaring off this Thanksgiving to play for the city football title, but on Wednesday they’re calling a temporary truce to help feed thousands of residents in need of a hot supper.

Hosted by Events DC and Safeway, the 12th Annual Safeway Feast of Sharing begins at 10 a.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

In addition to the football teams from Dunbar Senior High School and Coolidge Senior High School serving food, other participants include Mayor Vincent Gray, D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, Events DC President Gregory O’Dell and other city officials. Seth Mitchell, the undefeated heavyweight boxing contender making his HBO Sports debut at the convention center on Dec. 10, will also be there.

The Safeway Turkey Bowl kicks off at 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day at Eastern High School in Northeast.
