A recently-resigned Anne Arundel County police lieutenant pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography after persuading a teenage girl to send nude pictures of her.
James Cifala, 47, met the victim in 2007 when she was 14. He admitted that he spoke to her about having sex, but told her they had to wait until she was 16 because she had to earn his trust.
Over three weeks last summer, Cifala and the girl sent more than 1,300 text messages to each other, many of them sexually graphic. Cifala asked the victim to take and send him photos of her engaged in sexually explicit conduct, and she did.
As part of the plea agreement, Cifala and the government have agreed to ask the court for a sentence of five years in prison.
