Today is a big day for John McCain, and I say this not because he could end the evening with the 1,191 delegates needed to secure the nomination. I say this because Hillary Clinton could exit the election if she loses in both Ohio and Texas, and that would be very good news for the McCain campaign. Although everyone speculated McCain would have a huge advantage in raising money and plotting a strategy against the Democratic nominee, it hasn’t worked out that way. McCain has become yesterday’s news. No matter what he says, until the Obama-Clinton steel cage match concludes, he is going to be relegated to page A15 of newspapers. This wasn’t part of some strategy, but the circumstance has put McCain in the de facto position of Rudy Giuliani’s late-state strategy–not a good place to be.
