The White House named a new communications director Wednesday: longtime Trump aide Hope Hicks, whose tenure with Trump predates even his presidential campaign.
“Hope Hicks will work with White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders and all of the communications team and serve as the Interim White House Communications Director,” a White House official told pool reporters. “We will make an announcement on a permanent communications director at the appropriate time.”
It’s anybody’s guess when that “appropriate time” will be, as the communications director position has become something of a running joke in the Trump campaign. The post has been unfilled since Mike Dubke resigned in May, and successor Anthony Scaramucci managed to get fired before he had even officially started.
Before Donald Trump launched his political career, Hope Hicks worked as a consultant for the Trump Organization. She was a spokeswoman during his presidential campaign, and has held the title of director of strategic communications since Trump took office.
