Celebrate Fairfax, through Sunday Yes, ladies and gentleman, the area’s biggest annual festival is arguably in Fairfax.

Celebrate Fairfax is back again for its 30th year with dozens of national and local acts on seven stages, in addition to food, vendors and exhibits.

“There’s real history here,” said Meagan Butkus, managing director of Celebrate Fairfax. “It’s a community event.”

While Celebrate Fairfax is also the county fair, the music is a regional draw. Headliners this year are Third Eye Blind on Friday, the Bangles on Saturday and the Legwarmers on Sunday.

“Each year we try to bring in someone different,” Butkus said.

When: Friday 6 p.m. to midnight, Saturday 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

U.S. Air Guitar Championships D.C. Regional at the 9:30 Club, Saturday

Don’t laugh. Air guitar is a special type of performance that takes skill and plenty of practice. The regional competition takes places on Saturday at the 9:30 Club. Top players will advance to the National Finals on July 23 in Chicago.

Chelsea Handler at DAR Constitution Hall, Saturday

Anyone who has seen the show “Chelsea Lately” knows just how funny Chelsea Handler can be. The woman who brought us the books “Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea” and “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang” headlines Constitution Hall on Saturday. With Heather McDonald, Josh Wolf and Brad Wollack.

D.C. Jazz Fest, through Monday

The Capital Jazz Fest was last weekend, but not to be overlooked is the D.C. Jazz Fest, which started on the first of the month and runs through Monday at local venues. One of the highlights of the festival is Bobby McFerrin at the Warner Theatre on Saturday.

Marcy Playground, Those Darlins at Jammin’ Java, Friday

This is not one show, but two different shows at the same venue on the same night. At 7 p.m., catch underrated 1990s band Marcy Playground, best know for the hit song “Sex and Candy.” At 10 p.m., it’s up and coming Nashville-based punk/rock/rockabilly outfit Those Darlins. Pick up their new album “Screws Get Loose.”
