Held in Iran

Ali Akbar Darieni of the AP reports that:

A Washington Post journalist detained in Iran for months has been indicted and will stand trial, Iran’s state news agency reported Wednesday …

Which is the sort of thing they do in that part of the world.  But what makes it worse is that missing from the announcement by that “state news agency” (and one can just imagine its definition of “news”) was any mention of the charges.

Spitting on the sidewalk? Blasphemy (very elastic concept)?

The journalist, Jason Rezaian, has, plainly, displeased the Iranian regime, which is enough. So it will get around to making specific charges at a time of its choosing. Or not.

Meanwhile, our secretary of state:

… met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif before talks with world powers resume over the Islamic Republic’s contested nuclear program.
