Bill de Blasio to endorse Bernie Sanders

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will endorse Bernie Sanders for president after the Vermont senator became the 2020 front-runner following the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary.

It’s a move de Blasio hopes will propel himself to national relevance, those familiar with his plans told Politico, and comes five months after he ended his own bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

He will campaign for Sanders in Nevada on Sunday and travel the country for the candidate. De Blasio’s appearance in Nevada is happening a week before the state’s caucuses.

De Blasio endorsed Hillary Clinton over Sanders in the 2016 race. He had worked as Clinton’s campaign manager for her first Senate campaign but was a strong advocate for the left wing of the Democratic Party, which had energized support for Sanders.
