Though Steven Chamberlain resigned as the chief executive officer of Latham-based Integral Systems Inc. after he pleaded guilty to a sex offense on a 14-year-old girl earlier this year, he remains among the highest-paid men at the company.
After Chamberlain?s conviction, Integral hired Chamberlain, of Columbia, as a “contractor” with a pay rate of $25,000 a month, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing dated May 23.
The company agreed to pay Chamberlain about $300,000, approximately his yearly salary as a severance package, SEC filings show, after resigning as CEO, chairman and director May 1 ? days before Howard County Circuit Court Judge Diane Leasure sentenced him to five years of probation.
Integral also agreed to hire Chamberlain on May 17 as a consultant until the end of the year or the sale of the company at a rate of $25,000 per month, plus any “reasonable” out-of-pocket expenses, the filing states.
Under this contract, Chamberlain is expected to “explore strategic alternatives to maximize shareholder value, including the possible sale of the company.”
Chamberlain was a founding member of Integral Systems Inc.
No representative from Integral Systems returned repeated phone calls from The Examiner, seeking comment on Chamberlain?s consulting contract.
Neither Chamberlain nor his Baltimore attorney, Price Gielen, responded to requests for comment. Chamberlain?s voice mail at the company was full.
On Wednesday, the girl?s mother filed a $16.1 million lawsuit against Chamberlain, stating that her daughter looked up to him as a “father figure” and that he took advantage of her trust by molesting her four times in 2003 and 2004.
The girl “continues to struggle mentally and emotionally with the effects of the molestation,” the suit states.
Statements from the mother?s lawsuit include:
» Chamberlain used to baby-sit the victim begining when she was 11.
» Chamberlain showered the victim with gifts including a bicycle, DVD player and digital camera.
» Chamberlain convinced the victim not to tell anyone about being molested.
