Fairfax County police have arrested a man in connection with two burglaries, the assault on a 62-year-old woman and the abduction of a 16-year-old girl, all on Christmas Eve.

Wilmer Chavarria, 26, of no fixed address, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Commerce Plaza Shopping Center. He was charged with malicious wounding, burglary at night with intent to commit robbery, burglary at night with intent to commit larceny and abduction.

Police said Chavarria forced his way into a home near Frontier Drive on Christmas Eve and attacked a 62-year-old woman, who was later treated for a puncture wound to her arm. Earlier that evening, police said, Chavarria broke into a residence in the 6300 block of Alamo Street but left when confronted by the homeowner — only after claiming he was hungry and looking for food.

The investigation further revealed Chavarria pulled a knife on a 16-year-old girl in the 6600 block of Buckskin Street on the same night, police allege.

Residents in the area of the two burglaries identified Chavarria based on a composite sketch.

Police do not believe Chavarria is responsible for the murders of two elderly Springfield women in 2006.

“We would have to look at him, of course,” said Mary Mulrenan, Fairfax County police spokeswoman.
