President Obama gave a shout out to Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner event Saturday evening.
“We’ve got the bright new face of the Democratic Party here tonight, Mr. Bernie Sanders,” Obama told the audience.
Sanders is the only candidate from either party to show up at “Nerd Prom.”
“Bernie you look like a million bucks,” Obama said, “or to put it in terms you understand, you look like 37,000 donations of $27 each.”
Photos on social media show Sanders, who proudly states that his campaign is largely funded by small donations and says he will combat Wall Street if elected president, showed up to the event Saturday in a suit and tie instead of a tuxedo.

Obama also made a communism joke about Sanders.
“I’m just though Bernie, that you’ve been distancing yourself a little from me,” Obama said. “I mean that’s just not something you do to your comrade.”
