A man is in custody after a six-hour climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower on Monday.
The tower in Paris was evacuated and closed after the man, who has yet to be identified, climbed up the side of the iconic monument.
No motive has been released. A spokesperson with the group operating the tower said police were at the scene, noting that an evacuation is standard for these sorts of events.

“Police are negotiating with the man who is in a very dangerous position. To avoid a long wait, we advise people to postpone their visit,” the spokesperson said earlier.

The 1000-feet structure has seen its share of climbers. In 2017, the tower was evacuated after a man scaled one of the beams of the structure and threatened to commit suicide. Therese Okoumou, 45, who was arrested after attempting to climb the Statue of Liberty to protest President Trump’s immigration policies, forced the evacuation of the Eiffel Tower on two occasions.
