Bernie Campaign: Hillary Flip-Flopped on Health Care

The Bernie Sanders campaign has released a statement attacking Hillary Clinton on health care:

Hillary Clinton once said it “undermined core Democratic values” and gives “aid and comfort” to the special interests and “their allies in the Republican Party” for Democrats to attack each other’s health care plans. Today, in another flip-flop, she’s doing exactly what she once decried.

The statement says that because Sanders is gaining ground in Iowa, Clinton has “stepped up attacks on Sanders and his health care proposal.” That seems to be a reference to Chelsea Clinton misstating Sanders’ views on health care.

The most recent volley is an attack on Sanders’ plan to create a Medicare-for-all health care system for all Americans. Clinton’s attacks on a Democratic party rival over universal health care marks a very public flip flop by her and her campaign. She is now using the same Karl Rove tactics she once decried in this video.

In the linked video from 2008, Clinton says her then-rival Obama’s attacks are “the worst kind of tactics reminiscent of the same sort of Republican attacks on Democrats.” She added, “that it is not only wrong, but it is undermining core Democratic principles. Since when do Democrats attack one another on universal health care?” Clinton also said Obama’s tactics “are right out of Karl Rove’s playbook.”
