Does Ryan trust Trump? ‘It depends on the issue’

House Speaker Paul Ryan seemed to admit Wednesday that he doesn’t always trust Donald Trump, but said he’s convinced he can learn to work with Trump if he wins the White House.

Ryan was asked on CNN if he can trust Trump, and his first response was to laugh off the question.

“I know the press likes these kinds of questions,” he said.

“We have a binary choice in front of us. A liberal progressive Democrat named Hillary Clinton. A Republican named Donald Trump,” Ryan added. “I prefer the Republican over the liberal progressive Democrat. That’s the choice we got.”

When asked again, Ryan agreed that trust needs to be built up in some areas.

“It depends on the issue. Some things we don’t agree on, some things we do,” he said. “We’re going to have to learn to work together in … a separate but equal branch of government.

“I do know and believe that yes, he will be more likely to support the things that we believe and the values, the principles, the solutions that we’re calling for, and I know for a fact that Hillary Clinton won’t,” he added.
