Incident involving motorcade transporting Chinese officials: One person arrested

A person was arrested outside the White House complex by the U.S. Secret Service on Wednesday after attempting to interfere with a motorcade transporting Chinese officials, according to NBC News.

The Secret Service said in a statement the individual was arrested for “crossing a police line and assault on a police officer” after the person “attempted to impede the progress of vehicular traffic in a temporarily secured area.”

The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. The person in question is being taken to the Metropolitan Police Department for processing, according to the Secret Service.

A Chinese delegation has been at the White House for discussions with top White House officials on trade. The Trump administration and Chinese negotiators are working to meet a March 1 deadline to reach a trade deal.

The talks began Wednesday and will continue Thursday.

The ongoing trade negotiations have attracted protesters against the Chinese government. Earlier Wednesday, as the Chinese delegation left the Willard International Hotel for their meeting with Trump administration officials at the White House complex, demonstrators rushed the officials from Beijing, Bloomberg reported.
