Gingrich blasts NYT, Washington Post for ‘all-out war’ against Trump

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich laid bare his distaste for the media on Sunday, and said two of the country’s top publications have waged an “all-out war” against Donald Trump.

“Both the New York Times and the Washington Post have been in an all-out war to try to redefine Donald Trump,” Gingrich told radio host John Catsimatidis.

Gingrich pointed to a report published by the Times in May depicting Trump as a man who has a substantial history of treating women inappropriately both in business and personal relationships. The article, titled “Crossing the Line: How Donald Trump Behaved With Women in Private,” included testimony from women who knew the presumptive Republican presidential nominee long before he entered politics.

“Every single woman in the article repudiated the article, and say that the New York Times lied. They didn’t say those things,” Gingrich noted.

Several of the women who were quoted in the Times’ report later disputed the way their words were used in the article to portray Trump in a negative light.

Last month, Trump banned the Washington Post, at which 20 reporters have been assigned to dig into his past, from covering his campaign events, citing the post’s “unfair” and “dishonest” coverage.

Gingrich, along with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, is said to be one of five or so Republicans currently being vetted by the Trump campaign to be his running mate.
