Rick Santorum is projected to win the Missouri primary, the first of three GOP contests held Tuesday. At this point, Santorum has garnered 55 percent of the vote, a considerable majority if he holds it.
Missouri’s primary is considered a “beauty contest,” since the results will not result in the allocation of any delegates, but Santorum’s apparent commanding win over Mitt Romney, just over a month after narrowly edging Romney out in the Iowa caucus, gives the former Pennsylvania senator two contest victories, both coming in the crucial Midwest region.
Update: CNN now projects that Santorum will win the Minnesota caucuses, which has 33 delegates to allocate. In 2008, Romney defeated John McCain and Mike Huckabee in Minnesota.
