Anwan “Big G” Glover, who plays Slim Charles on the acclaimed HBO series “The Wire,” is trying to pull troubled kids off the streets the way he was pulled off the streets.
Before his acting career, Glover ran with gangs in the Columbia Heights area. He was convicted on gun and drug charges and heading in the wrong direction.
On Wednesday, Glover was back in D.C. with the Peaceoholics founder Ronald Moten, the man who helped Glover change his ways. Glover, who just finished shooting a part on “Law & Order: SVU,” joined Moten on Wednesday to call for an end to the city’s drive-by shootings.
The older generation must show the younger generation that there are alternative to the streets, he said.
“[Moten] pulled me off the streets and showed me a whole different world,” Glover said. “I want to show them that there’s a way.”
