Mixing great food with a great cause

For food lovers, there?s nothing quite like The Living Classroom

Foundation?s annual waterfront party.

More than 40 of Charm City?s favorite caterers and restaurateurs treated 2,000 guests to their specialties at the foundation?s recent Maritime Magic event along the Inner Harbor.

Living Classroom President James Piper Bond was delighted with the enthusiastic turnout at the Frederick Douglass Isaac Myers Maritime Park.

Spotted having a magical time were Irv Walker, Seema Reznick, David Gleason, John Kenny and Jan Kenny and Living Classroom board members Tedd Alexander III, James Flick Jr., William Blake, Warner

Mason, Richard Pete, Carserlo Doyle, Ted Rouse, Stuart Rubenstein, Kevin Hall and Herman William Jr.

Mary Anthony ? mother of Denver Nuggets star (and Baltimorean) Carmelo Anthony ? was impressed with the food, adding that “this event is always a slam dunk.”

Adding to the festive atmosphere were the fabric ceiling creations of Wayne Nicolette of XIBITZ (Exhibit Design & Fabrication), as pointed out by his proud wife, Debbie, a fitness instructor with Brick Bodies. The evening?s proceeds benefited the foundation?s many ongoing programs to provide hands-on education and job training for disadvantaged youth.

SEEING PINK

The American Cancer Society?s Reach for Recovery volunteers provide invaluable support for breast cancer patients. Recently, they were treated to the first-ever “Party in Pink” at the society?s White Marsh location. Highlighting the event was the presentation of the Terese Lasser Award, named for the founder of the Reach for Recovery

program.

This year?s award was shared by Marsha Oakley, Rita Shemer and Cathy Hirsch ? all breast cancer survivors. The event also was used to promote the American Cancer Society?s “Making Strides” benefit walk on Oct. 21. For information, visit www.makingstrides.acsevents.org.
