Trump signs ‘foolproof’ border wall

President Trump signed his name on a plaque affixed to the tall steel beams of a section of newly installed border fence in San Luis, Arizona.

Trump was surrounded by Arizona politicians and federal law enforcement, who described the new infrastructure as a game changer for public safety and national security.

Trump and a group of local, state, and federal officials put their signatures on the fence Tuesday afternoon following a briefing on border security enhancements made under the Trump administration.

“It’s really foolproof,” Trump told reporters after signing the barrier. “Heavy concrete inside the steel, and inside the concrete, we have rebar.”

The group visited a portion of the fence to celebrate the completion of more than 200 miles of fence under the administration. Some 216 miles of barrier have gone up as a result of the White House’s push for a better barrier system at the nation’s land border with Mexico.

Trump and nine others posed for a picture beneath the brown-colored steel beams, which stretch 18 feet to 30 feet tall, depending on the part of the border. Trump used a marker to sign the wall and was followed by others who took turns putting their signatures on the new piece of infrastructure: Sen. Martha McSally, Rep. Debbie Lesko, Gov. Doug Ducey, Army Corps of Engineers Commanding Gen. Todd Semonite, acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, and other local officials.
