Chuck Grassley: ‘I support release of the Mueller report’

A top Republican said he supports the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report.

“I support release of the Mueller report,” Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said in a brief tweet Thursday. Grassley was chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the last session of Congress.

Attorney General William Barr said last week he expected a redacted version of Mueller’s report to be released in mid-April, “if not sooner.” The attorney general also volunteered to testify publicly after Mueller’s report is released to the public and said he is available to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 1 and the House Judiciary Committee on May 2.

But that hasn’t been good enough for Democrats who are frustrated with Barr’s four-page summary of Mueller’s report that President Trump and his allies claim provided him exoneration.

The House Judiciary Committee voted Wednesday to subpoena Mueller’s full report along with the underlying documents and calls have been mounting among top congressional and political leaders to get the report out to the public quickly.

Adding fuel to their wrath were reports Wednesday evening cited officials saying some of the investigators involved in the 22-month inquiry are worried public perception of the investigation has been improperly shaped by Barr’s initial summary, a four-page memo to Congress in which he said Trump did not collude with Russia.

Barr also wrote Mueller declined to determine whether Trump obstructed justice, and Barr said he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein concluded there was insufficient evidence to show the president committed a crime.
