Mitt Romney, R-Utah, revealed that his pick in the 2016 presidential election was someone very close to him: his wife.
The former Massachusetts governor and 2012 GOP presidential candidate revealed in an interview with Utah’s Deseret News that he chose to write in his wife, Ann Romney, in the 2016 presidential election.
“I wrote in the name of a person who I admire deeply, who I think would be an excellent president,” Romney said Wednesday. “I realized it wasn’t going to go anywhere, but nonetheless felt that I was putting in a very solid name.”
Romney, who is currently running for U.S. Senate in Utah, was no stranger to criticizing President Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign.
While he’s walked back some anti-Trump statements since hitting the campaign trail, Romney recently said that the president was not someone he viewed as a “role model” for his grandchildren.
