A 61-year-old Asian man in New York City is in critical condition after a suspect allegedly kicked him in the head multiple times, police said.
The man was struck from behind, which caused him to fall to the ground, according to the New York Police Department‘s Hate Crimes Task Force. The assailant forcefully kicked the man in the head multiple times, footage showed.

The incident took place Friday at about 8:20 p.m. at 3rd Ave. & E. 125 St., the task force said in a Saturday tweet. The suspect was wearing dark clothing, white sneakers, an orange hat, and a mask. His or her age and race was unclear.

Law enforcement officers are trying to determine whether the attack was racially motivated, ABC 7 reported.

Friday’s incident is the latest in a series of attacks against Asian individuals in New York City.
The task force arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted three separate Asian victims in Brooklyn, it announced April 7. In one incident, the man allegedly shoved a 77-year-old who was looking at a vegetable stand.
