Sept. 25: Catoctin Aqueduct 10k Run and 5k Fun Run/Walk, Point of Rocks, Md., 8 a.m. The run will be on the C&O Canal towpath, and runners will pass two railroad tunnels, two canal locks, two canal lock houses, and one 1830s stone aqueduct over Catoctin Creek. Info: pointofrocks.org.
Sept. 25: Lake Needwood Cross Country, Derwood, 8 a.m. The 10k will take runners over the hills, mud, grass and trails around Lake Needwood. Info: Mcrrc.org.
Sept. 25: Kensington 8k Race & 2-mile challenge, Kensington, 7:30. The race is an annual event for the town of Kensington, with a one-mile fun run as well as the 8k and 2-mile races. Proceeds go to the local public schools. Info: kensington8k.org.

Oct. 2: Freedom’s Run, Shepherdstown, W.Va., 7 a.m. The 26.2-mile marathon course takes runners through four national parks — Harpers Ferry, the C&O Canal, Antietam National Battlefield, and the Potomac Heritage Trail.
